In this part, we will share some of the ways on how GDEX providing the IT solution to improve their visibility and information throughout the supply chain.

COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM- CCTV

GDEX installed a complete and advanced security surveillance system in each of their different operation areas to prevent pilferage. At the warehouse, GDEX installed CCTV at their load and unload area and areas where they place their parcel.

Meanwhile at GDEX branch, they put CCTV at most areas where there are any activities happened such as at the drop off area, counter area, loading area and so on, so that if there is any missing parcel happened or customers report that they don’t receive their parcel, GDEX can find where the parcel is loss.

IT SYSTEM INFRASTRUCTURE

To increase efficiency in its daily operations, GDEX has upgraded its IT infrastructure to manage its customer orders, tracking requests, complaints, traffic control, consignment manifesting, billing, traffic control, consignment manifesting, billing, accounting, receivables and numerous reporting.

One of the newest systems GDEX has implement is GDEX have installed a proof of delivery (POD) system to track consignments that flow through their hub. This will subsequently be expanded into interactive web-based tracking system to track deliveries until it arrived at the customer’s door.

FLEET GPS TRACKING

The Global Positioning System (GPS) devices has been installed on GDEX trucks where it can allow customers' shipments to be tracked through Real Time Tracking (RTT), which is managed by the GDEX Fleet Management Program and allows customers to monitor their shipments through the GDEX e-tracking system.

BARCODE AND HANDHELD SCANNER

Each of GDEX shipment has their own barcode where it is usually attached at the consignment note. This barcode is used to track the parcel at each point its stop. The barcode will be scan by the handheld scanner when it arrived at the particular point.

Therefore, all consignments are carefully recorded and tagged with barcode so that GDEX able to handing and tracking over their shipments at the various points so that the transfer of documented will be easier and enable tracing.

X-TRAY DEVICES - SECURITY SCREENING

The way of how GDEX handle shipments that are contain dangerous and prohibited goods is they will do screening for the shipments. Usually, this screening will be done for international shipments since international shipments have stricter regulation and also to ensure all of GDEX shipments are safe.

This screening activities usually will be done before the goods is transferred for cross border. The international shipment will go through the X-ray beam, and on the opposite side of the tunnel, a detector measures the amount of radiation which has penetrated the scanned item. The detector will show the contain of the scanned item in the screen with different kind of colours. GDEX have the classification of colours and amount of specific prohibited liquid that they need to follow so that GDEX can decide to either reject and return the shipments back to customer or accept and proceed the shipment.

SECURITY CAGE

GDEX use security cage at their warehouse to protect and help prevent valuable or high value shipments from being stolen or loss. In addition, security cages also can provide a higher level of protection by acting as a barrier against potential theft, pilferage, or vandalism. Not only that, by using security cage, it will help GDEX to limit the number of people who are able to access the parcels that are being stored inside.
